About

Welcome!

My name’s Laura and this is Hundred and Counting.
This blog is about finding time, 100 days in a row, to sit down and write a blog post. I want to study blogging and play around a bit. Have some fun. I won’t make any promises content-wise. All I can promise is that I’ll do my best not to bore you to tears.

At my age I really should know what I want in life. I don’t, but I do know that writing is one of those things. I believe writing is healthier than green smoothies, yoga lessons and high intensity work-outs put together. Writing makes me into a better person.

Other things I love: reading, art, studying languages, catching up on psychological and nutritional science, playing the piano and ukulele, looking after my two gorgeous sons and just mucking about in general. I used to be strung out on British soap operas, but am happy to say that I’ve now been clean for 11 months. So much more time to do the truly interesting things in life.

There are so many cool things to write about and only around 50 more years left to do it. I’d better get writing then.

Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you around!

  1. I enjoyed learning more about you. We have numerous interests in common! I think you will find that blogging is addictive, in a fun and healthy way, so that you won’t need to find excuses not to write. Or at least that is true for me.

      1. I struggle to get started pretty much every day! 😀 Luckily I’ve now realized that getting started is the hardest part. For me the main thing is just to start writing and eventually it will sort itself out.

      2. I think that blogging came easily because I used to write a lot. I had to write during my Master’s degree, then I taught at the University of Washington and had to write for publication. Once I was a therapist I wrote a few articles and once I became involved with my spiritual teacher I started writing books about my spiritual process as well as articles that combined psychological and spiritual process.

So writing is part of my history. I hadn’t written for a very long time though. My son whose blog is The Seeker’s Dungeon tried to talk me into starting a blog for some time. After a year I decided to do it. He thought I would enjoy doing it but neither of us had an idea of how much I would love it. I had thought I didn’t have anything new to say anymore, and found out I have plenty to say!

Blogging gives us all opportunity to share ourselves with others. We can teach and learn. I’m really glad that you are blogging!

  2. Hey Laura! Thanks for stopping by and the follow. And I hate to tell you this, but I’m 64 and I STILL don’t know what I want in life — even after raising a family! I disagree about words, though. I OD on them ALL THE TIME. I am so addicted to blogging. 😀 I’m just leaving for Maryland to meet my new 6-week-old grand daughter Lydia Rose, so I’ll have to check out your blog when I get back. Have a good week!

    1. Yay, thanks so much! I actually just received the Liebster nomination, and only did a post on it yesterday. I’ll be glad to answer your questions, though! 🙂

    1. I love the piano too. I actually played the violin too when I was growing up, but I never really liked it. The violin is only beautiful if you play it really well. Anything short of that is pretty gruesome.

  3. I know the feeling, at my age I should know what I want to do as well. But don’t!! Is it then that people with indecisive minds become bloggers?? Writers of life and nomads of the internet?

  4. Love your goal! I am currently doing a free open university creative writing course, it’s only 3 hours a week but I still find myself leaving the assignments til last thing on a Sunday night each week. Can totally relate to finding excuses not to!

  5. If you are a psychologist, how can you be boring? 🙂

Yoga and green smoothies are not as healthy as writing? I do not believe that. Each is a different exercise. A green smoothie exercises your internals. Yoga exercises the body in a–hopefully–slow, safe way, assisting with the health of the mind which then further exercises with activities like writing and graphic arts.

      1. How does it go, healthy mind in a healthy body? You’re right since of course exercise and healthy eating and all of that is very important. What I wrote was a bit tongue-in-cheek to stress the fact that I really enjoy writing and find its effect hugely beneficial.

      2. Yea, and all of that. 😛

Well, that seems to be a strong female gender thing here. Women dominate this “blog-verse.” They sure have a lot to say but are not entirely sure they can produce a steady supply of “milk.” I think they need to chew the cud with other cows more. Then they will have less to write and more to say in person…which I think is as healthy if not healthier than a blog.

      3. What can I say? This is your opinion, and my opinion is up there, and that’s pretty much all there is to it. No need to be disrespectful, though.

      4. I get sort of edgy if I’m likened to a ruminating animal. I guess I’m just funny that way. Thank you for the apology.
